30MW Solar Farm In Progress For Old RAF Base In North East Scotland

It has been revealed that a 30MW solar farm is in the early stages of being developed on the grounds of an old RAF airbase in Scotland.

The previous World War Two base, RAF Tealing, at this present time houses a large substation, five sets of transmission lines and one wind turbine.

Green Cat Renewables has applied for screening opinion, a forerunner to arrange a formal planning request.

The UK’s current biggest solar farm is on a former airfield in Wymeswold, Leicestershire.

Developers will be hoping the site can copy the actions of fellow airfield-based solar farm in Wymeswold.

The developer told local paper ‘The Courier’ that it would cost around £30 million to build and would cover 120 acres of land!

The site would continue to be used for agriculture.

Lower land rents and the availability of grid connections have made Scotland and other UK locations north of southern most England more and more popular with developers.

The Large-Scale Solar UK Conference will be back in 2014 running from the 29th April – 1st May.
