AMP Solar UK has commenced in an effort to tackle UK fuel poverty, AMP Solar UK is a joint venture by four companies.
With a goal to develop 300MW of rooftop and ground mount solar, their target is to provide PV Solar Installations for residential properties. Home owners such as Housing developers, commercial landlords and housing associations will be able to purchase solar systems from AMP Solar UK, which will provide them an income from the solar power generation.
PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) are available (AMP Solar UK have a zero cost option), they offer a fixed cost for 20 years, which will result in a significant reduction in energy bills. This initiative will be focusing on residential properties, which is not restricted to home owners, as residents who rent are will be able to benefit from cleaner, cheaper energy, with the hopes for them to be ‘lifted out of fuel poverty’
The joint venture is between marketing firm, MAP Environmental, and solar asset developer, AMP Solar Group, financed by Apollo Investment Corporation, with Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), and Operations and Maintenance (O&M), to be undertaken by Sustain Energy Solutions.
This seems like an interesting idea, I am confident it will have an impact on tenants, as often times money is tight, but to reduce just one bill with a Solar Panel Installation, it would not only make current tenants happy, but also become an incentive for potential tenants to choose the property that has Solar Energy. The decision to use if not solely purchase clean renewable energy is a step in the right direction, the whole point is to convert as many people as possible, with tenants not having an option to do so before, this is definitely a change for the better, hopefully with the initiative of these four companies as an example it will inspire more and more to follow suit.
